The 97th Hamilton Scout Group
Mohawk Trails Area, Battlefields Region
The first 97th group was Sea Scouts, started in 1961, followed by Venturers. In 1963 Cubs started. The Beavers started in 1976.
We were sponsored by St.Bartholomew's until it's amalgamation with St. Timothy's in 2000, becoming The Church of the Resurrection Anglican Church.
We were given the privilege of creating the new crest of the phoenix rising out of the ashes to signify the amalgamation of the two churches. This is the crest that is currently used by the 97th Scout Group and the Church.

"We are the 97th Sea Scouts of Hamilton. We started in 1961 by Mr. A. Langridge, a former Sea Scout in Britain. It has always seemed incongruous to have Sea Scouts located on the Hamilton mountain. However, our sea base is at the Hamilton Harbour, on a site shared by all Hamilton. Sea Scouts' continuous activity, along with the 97th Cubs, the 97th Ventures (on occasions), and the 97th Beavers attests to the success of the Leaders and Group Committees over the years. the history of the 97th Scout Group is another subject.
Scouts meet every Wednesday at the Church of the Resurrection. We go on lots of camping trips, mostly to camp Nemo in Burlington. We also go to Fort George, Ragged Falls and every two years we go to the Jamboree in Sarnia. And once we went to Thunder Bay.
We have also done lots of activities like: dragon boat racing, canoeing, sailing, and model rocketry. We do lots of fundraising for our troop money and to help pay for the Jamboree we go to.
Every year we also have our annual banquet. This is where we hand out the Scout of the Year award. The Scout of the Year award is presented to the best Scout we had over the last year. This started in 1965. We also give out medals to the Leaders for helping with scouts of 10 years, 20 years, 30 years, and 40 years. After we eat, we normally entertain the adults with some skits, songs, or cheers."
