The Scout Brigade of Fort George (sponsored by the Greater Toronto Council of Scouts Canada) operates an annual weekend Scout Camp on the grounds of historic Fort George in the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario Canada.

Always held on the third full weekend of September, it is an historically themed Scout camporee which sees scouts from the Province of Ontario join together with their brother scouts from Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York States to learn about the life of a soldier of the British or US Army in 1812-1814.

Participants at the camp don mock uniforms and make other equipment of the period and engage in drills, parades and manoeuvres. The opportunity to learn about this period of history is unsurpassed.

Experience what life was like on the Niagara Frontier during the time when the border was being shaped. Step back in history and join the Scout Brigade as troops from Canada and the United States gather to learn about the past and celebrate over 200 years of peace and all within a Scouting environment of brotherhood.

Cub Weekend (General Information).

The Scout Brigade of Fort George is an International Scout Camporee (sponsored by the Greater Toronto Council of Scouts Canada) held on the grounds of historic Fort George in the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario Canada. It is historically themed to the War of 1812. The concept is to give Scouting youth a living history lesson about the War of 1812 and the formation of the Niagara Frontier. It has operated annually since 1984 and on average has a registration of 2500 to 3,000+ youth and volunteers.

The Youth experience what life was like on the Niagara Frontier during the time when the border was being shaped. Step back in history and join the Scout Brigade as groups from Canada and the United States gather to learn about the past and celebrate over two centuries of peace and all within a Scouting environment.

The Cub program is open to Cub Scouts (age 8-10 yrs) from Scouts Canada and the Boy Scouts of America. The camp is a full weekend of cub age-appropriate fun activities, while learning a bit about history. During the program we visit Fort George, and participate in the Brigade Parade through the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake with the Scouts and Venturers and see the Scouts in battle.

As this is a re-enactment camp, we too must play our part. The Cubs all camp together, but portray the part of two Regiments. The Canadian Cubs represent the Canadian Fencible and the BSA Cubs form the West Point Academy.

To look the part we ask that your Volunteers and Youth wear the following at camp:

Canadians: a red t-shirt
Americans: a navy blue t-shirt

We provide the appropriate coloured necker to wear with your shirt for the parade. If your group has them, the cubs can wear straw hats or black military style Shikoku (like the Scouts).

The fees you pay are governed by when you register. For registration deadlines and details go to the "Registration" menu to your left.

Typical Cub Program.

The following is only a brief outline of the Cub program, a more detailed outline for the current year will be available to you following registration.

Camp opens at 5 pm Friday evening and the evening is devoted to setting up your campsite and generally getting settled in. Your Cub section leader reports your section's arrival to the Cub Headquarters and picks up your registration package. Later in the evening there is an all leaders information meeting where we welcome you and update you on the events of the weekend.

Saturday morning breakfast starts early (we are on 1812 time now). Opening Ceremonies for the Cubs take place in the camp field in front of Cub HQ, followed by a busy morning of program. We then hike to town for a lunch provided. After lunch, the Cubs will watch the older Youth Brigade parade past and then join into the end of the parade. Following the parade, we march to Fort George and participate in afternoon program, which includes; musket drills, tours of the Fort and activities. There is an opportunity to see the Scout Brigade in their afternoon battle using musket cap guns and military style maneuvers.

Following dinner, Saturday evening has a full lineup of free time activities, with our annual Fudge/Chocolate parade/store, RC Church Service, Badge/Patch trading, a possibly a concert or movie (depending on the year). A Scout Shop is also set up on site all day Saturday.
